Assemblyman David Wolfe Honored with Community College
Legislative Excellence Award
TRENTON, N.J.—On June 21, as part of its annual
Trustee Conference at the Trenton Marriott at Lafayette Yard, the New
Jersey Council of County Colleges presented its 2010 Legislative Excellence
Award to Assemblyman David Wolfe for his exemplary support of New Jersey's
19 community colleges.
"The New Jersey Council of County Colleges' Legislative
Excellence Award is an honor bestowed each year on selected legislators
who have served as exceptional advocates for the state's 19 community
colleges," said NJCCC Chairman Ronald Winthers. "We truly appreciate Assemblyman
Wolfe's passion and commitment to our community colleges and our students."
Wolfe was especially recognized for his support of
the New Jersey Student Tuition Assistance Rewards (NJ STARS) scholarship
program, as well as the financial aid for part-time community college
students program, known as Part-Time Tuition Aid Grants.
Wolfe has represented the 10th legislative district
(Ocean and Monmouth Counties) in the General Assembly since 1992. He currently
serves on the Assembly Budget and Assembly -more- Wolfe Legislative Excellence
Award / page two Education committees.
He served on the Brick Township Council from 1976
to 1991, and was council president from 1980 to 1981 and from 1987 to
1988. Wolfe's various appointments and memberships include the following:
former chairman of the State Beach Erosion Commission, chairman of the
Commission on Business Efficiency of the Public Schools, member of the
Governor's Advisory Panel on Higher Education Restructuring, member of
the Joint Committee on Public Schools, Advisory Board member of Health
South Rehabilitation Hospital, board member of Ocean Federal Foundation,
Preferred Behavioral Services Board of Directors, member of the Brick
Township Republican Club and former member of the Brick Township Jaycees
and Lions.
Wolfe has been honored with the Association of Retarded
Citizens Humanitarian Award, and the Ocean County College Alumni Distinguished
Service Award. In 1995, he was named Brick Township's Republican of the
Year. He has been given a Certificate of Appreciation from Richard Stockton
State College of New Jersey and Veterans Memorial Elementary School.
He holds a master's degree in education from University
of Delaware and a bachelor's degree in history from Westminster College.
He also participated in the Honor Program at American University. Currently
he is a professor of psychology at Ocean County College in Toms River.
In 1984, the assemblyman married the former Carol
A. Carmilli. His children are John, Karen, Laura, Elise, David, and Jonathan.
The New Jersey Council of County Colleges is the state
association representing New Jersey’s 19 community colleges. As
an independent, trustee-headed organization that joins the leadership
of trustees and presidents, the Council is the voice of the community
college sector before the state legislature and other branches of government.
